Checkout Settings control how address fields behave during checkout when your store uses location based shopping.
How to Access
To configure this feature:
- Go to Location Manage →Settings→Order & Cart
- Then find Checkout Settings
Auto Populate Customer Addresses (On/Off)
Purpose
Automatically fills in customer address fields during checkout using the customer’s detected location. This helps customers complete checkout faster with less typing.
Options
- On: Address fields can be filled automatically based on detected location.
- Off: Customers must enter their address manually.
How it works
When this setting is On
- Customer opens the checkout page.
- The system detects the customer’s location (based on your site’s detection method).
- Checkout address fields (like city, state, postcode, country) may be filled automatically.
- The customer reviews the details and edits anything that is wrong or missing.
Example
A customer visits from Dhaka. The system may auto-fill:
- City: Dhaka
- Country: Bangladesh
The customer then adds the rest like street address and phone number.
When this setting is Off
- No address fields are auto-filled.
- The customer enters all address details manually.
Important notes
- Auto-fill depends on location detection accuracy. It can sometimes select the wrong city or area, so customers should still double-check.
- If your store allows shipping to many areas, auto-fill can reduce checkout time and lower cart abandonment.
- If your store needs exact delivery details, keep manual editing allowed so customers can correct any mistakes.
Recommended use
- Turn On for a faster checkout experience, especially for mobile users.
- Turn Off if your customers often order for someone else’s address or if location detection is not reliable in your region.
